Force Unit Converter
Load cells, tension specs and weighing systems quote newtons on one datasheet, pounds-force on another and kilogram-force on a third, while dynes appear in old laboratory work. This converter moves exactly between them with no approximation.

Why force units collide
Force mixes the SI newton with two mass-derived units — the pound-force (lbf) and the kilogram-force (kgf) — plus the tiny dyne of old cgs work. The kgf assumes standard gravity (9.80665 m/s²), so 1 kgf = 9.80665 N exactly; the lbf is 4.4482216152605 N.
All factors are exact definitions, so the converter is exact. The only trap is kgf vs kg: kgf is a force (mass × standard gravity), not a mass, and must not be read as kilograms in a load calc.
Which unit where
Newtons and kilonewtons are the SI language of load cells and structural ratings; lbf dominates US load and tension specs; kgf appears on older scales and Asian equipment; dynes are legacy laboratory force. Match the unit your spec writes in, then convert.

Frequently asked
How many newtons in a pound-force?
Is kgf the same as kg?
What is a dyne in newtons?
Why do load cells use N but scales use kgf?
This page performs exact unit arithmetic with no physical assumption beyond the stated reference (for example mH₂O assumes water near 4 °C, and pH follows its logarithmic definition). It is a working aid, not a substitute for the measurement method named in your permit.
