Mass Unit Converter
Chemical dosing, shipping weights and analytical balances rarely agree on units: a recipe calls for grams, a datasheet for pounds, a permit for kilograms and a lab for milligrams. This converter moves exactly between metric and imperial mass with no approximation.

Why mass units collide
Metric mass is a clean decimal stack (tonne, kg, g, mg) while imperial mass stacks ounces, pounds and (short/long) tons on non-decimal factors. The conversion between them — 1 lb = 0.45359237 kg exactly — is a defined constant, so the converter is exact.
The only trap is the tonne vs ton ambiguity: a metric tonne is 1000 kg, but a short (US) ton is 907.185 kg and a long (UK) ton is 1016.05 kg. This tool uses the metric tonne; convert short/long tons deliberately if your spec uses them.
Which unit where
Grams and milligrams rule laboratory and dosing work; kilograms and tonnes describe bulk chemical, freight and tank contents. Pounds and ounces are the imperial language of equipment nameplates and shipping in US markets.

This page performs exact unit arithmetic with no physical assumption beyond the stated reference (for example mH₂O assumes water near 4 °C, and pH follows its logarithmic definition). It is a working aid, not a substitute for the measurement method named in your permit.
